CONTEMPLATE THE KING

Devotional for August 15, 2021

Morning Philippians 3:7,8

Noon Psalms 97

Evening 1Peter 1:17-21

The reason many believers do not properly appreciate Christian life and, instead, devote most of their energies to other things, is precisely because they have lost sight of the enormous price paid for our redemption, as well as the magnificence of the Redeemer.

Paul's example is illuminating in how that principle acts in believers. Before being a Christian, Paul gave much value to a number of things related to his lineage and his religion. When the Holy Spirit illuminated his understanding, and he could contemplate the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ, all what was valuable to him paled before the supreme beauty of the Lord.

The work God did with Paul through which this proud man of his lineage and religion came to value Christ and his redemptive work infinitely more than all those things, is a work that the Holy Spirit performs in every true believer.

Antonio Corrales

For the natural man, the Christ of the Bible has no value, however for the spiritual man there is nothing of more value.

Morning Philippians 3:7,8

7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

Noon Psalms 97

1 The Lord reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.

2 Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.

3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.

4 His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.

5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.

7 Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods.

8 Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O Lord.

9 For thou, Lord, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.

10 Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

12 Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

Evening 1Peter 1:17-21

17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
