A FRIEND

Devotional for Tuesday April 19, 2022

Morning 1 Samuel 18:1-4

Noon Psalm 19

Evening

Friendship is a very close relationship between two or more

people, where fidelity, complicity and companionship are professed. Although many times it is thought that friendship does not exist because men deceive and betray, today I want to tell you that all this is nothing more and nothing less than a trick of the enemy so that you do not relate to anyone. Clearly, the Bible shows us that beautiful relationship between David and Jonathan, two beings who shared a sincere friendship, loved and defended each other above all else, leaving evidence of this feeling that helps man to relate and share sincerely with others. The true friend is the one who, under the fear and knowledge of God, seeks your good. Do not throw away someone who extends a friendly hand to you and wants to see you happy, that person has a great virtue, wisdom from heaven.

Likewise, the Word tells us that if we do the will of the Father, we will be friends of Jesus, who possesses a unique fidelity and whose love is pure and transparent. He pleads for you and me and, more than two thousand years ago, he gave himself to give us the great and blessed opportunity to dwell with Him for eternity.

Morning 1 Samuel 18:1-4

1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

2 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.

3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.

Noon Psalm 19

1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,

5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.

6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Evening John 15:12-15

12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

The Challange for the Month: Search for scriptures that describe God's character, and then take time to do a Bible study to reflect on how you can apply those characteristics in your own life. Remember that you are an ambassador of God who should strive to represent him in a worthy manner. Find out what are the requirements God has for those who are citizens of HIS kingdom. Apply those requirements in your life and pray daily for these things.
