CONTROLLED BY BROTHERLY LOVE

October 13, 2021

Morning1 Thessalonians 4:9-10

Noon Psalm 5

Evening Romans 12:10

All who love Jesus should love each other mutually as brothers in Christ (1 Thessalonians 4: 9,10) with sincere and kind affection, not with cold indifference. In our relationships within the family of faith, we should display brotherly love. As for honor, we should prefer to see others honored before ourselves. Brothers in Christ who are moved by genuine love will be more willing to respect others than to be respected, because love is also respectful. We are called to rejoice in the success of our neighbors, as if it were our own. Our tendency is to be jealous when others rejoice, and overlook when others hurt. However, when controlled by brotherly love, we can rejoice with our brothers who rejoice and cry together with those who mourn (Romans 12:15). The attitude of the Christian under the dominion of brotherly love must be one of mercy, not revenge. Someone once said “Treat your enemy kindly; this may soften his hard heart and do away with any animosity." Let us overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21).

Lord, teach me to accept my neighbor in love, just as you have accepted me.

Morning1 Thessalonians 4:9-10

9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;

Noon Psalm 5

1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.

5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.

11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

12 For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Evening Romans 12:10

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
