IDENTIFY YOURSELF WITH YOUR BROTHER

Devotional for Saturday May 28, 2022

God, in his immense mercy, sent his beloved Son to identify himself with humanity. Christ suffered hunger, needs, anger and in everything he was tempted, but was without sin. So, Christ can sympathize with each one of us. Today, it is up to you and me to do the same. Your test is difficult, as is mine, but this is not a competition to see who suffers the most, nor is it a march to trample on who will hurt the most. Our life is a long walk, where if one gets tired, the other gives him a drink, if one faints, the other picks him up, encourages him and waits for him to return to the narrow path. Each in his own tribulation. Today it's you, maybe tomorrow it's me. So, to bear, to stimulate, to exhort, to press forward to console and to confirm is our task. In these hard times where stress and daily situations become our worst enemies, let us bring all thoughts to Christ and let’s identify with others. To help, support, protect, lead, and pray as if it were for ourselves. Do as Christ did for you.

Morning Luke 10:36-38

36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

Noon Psalm 30

1 I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

2 O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

3 O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

4 Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.

7 LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.

8 I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.

9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?

10 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.

11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

Evening Luke 10:30-35

30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

Prayer Guide: [Nicaragua-Masaya] and [E.U. Diócesis Norte-Dauphin]

This month's challenge is: Identify each character virtue of Christ and incorporate it into your own character. Spend more time with the people you love. Evaluate daily if your behavior resembles that of Jesus. Constantly ask yourself before making a decision or doing anything, what would Christ have done in my place? Study more deeply the life of Christ and ask God to help you be a better Christian.
