IF THEY ASK YOU TO PRAY, PRAY

Devotional for Wednesday May 25, 2022

Most of us can say that it has happened to us at one time or another, that someone has asked us to pray for them and, over time, the same person has called us to thank us for praying and takes the opportunity to tell us that God answered their prayer. How pleasant it is when we have truly prayed with responsibility and constancy! However, sometimes we remember the person’s request the moment they are calling us. How do you feel when that happens? Does it matter to you? Do you justify yourself by saying: “I have many things on my mind”? Or do you get sad, stating that it will not happen again? We must take seriously the need of our brethren, praying for their request as if it were ours, because they saw in us someone with whom they could united raise their plea to God, who, as the Scripture says: "... if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven (Matthew 18:19).

Morning James 5:16-18

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Noon Psalm 30

1 I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

2 O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

3 O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

4 Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.

7 LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.

8 I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.

9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?

10 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.

11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

Evening Matthew 18:19

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Prayer Guide: [El Salvador-San Miguel] and [México-Chiná]

This month's challenge is: Identify each character virtue of Christ and incorporate it into your own character. Spend more time with the people you love. Evaluate daily if your behavior resembles that of Jesus. Constantly ask yourself before making a decision or doing anything, what would Christ have done in my place? Study more deeply the life of Christ and ask God to help you be a better Christian.
