LOOK UP TO JESUS

Devotional for Saturday, January 29, 2022

Morning Psalm 34:1-6

Noon Psalms 3

Evening John 1:14-18

On the day when Jesus was crucified, Him there were two men beside him, one saw Jesus as a way of escape from the punishment he deserved (Luke 23:39); but on the other side there was a man who recognized himself for what he was, a vile sinner who deserved death, and instead of complaining against God or blaming others, he set his eyes on Christ, recognized His lordship and said to Him, "...remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” (Luke 23:42). He had only to look to live.

The Lord did not hesitate with His response. The one who was minutes away from death, received a new opportunity, and with it, the glorious hope of eternal life. The words of Jesus became a reality instantly, the Son of Man has been lifted up so that "...that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:15). Then Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:43). No matter where you are in your life, if you look up to Jesus, there is still hope; all those who have looked up to Him have not been put to shame.

Morning Psalms 34:1-6

1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

Noon Psalms 3

1 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.

2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.

3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.

7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

8 Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

Evening John 1:14-18

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
