RETURN TO GOD

Devotional for December 11, 2021

Morning Isaiah 55:1-13

Noon Psalms 125

Evening 2 Chronicles 7:11-14

The world does not work the way it did when it was created by God in the beginning. The social situation is terrifying: there is an increase in crime and family disintegration. One could say this is proportional to the decrease of faith in God. The evil that dwells in the carnal man drives him to commit all sorts of sins that are destroying his morals and cauterizing his conscience. The breakdown is such that sin is not only ignored, but is encouraged by the world, calling the bad good, and the good bad. The virtuous man ceased to be the role model for society, only to make way for the popular man who wins the sympathy of the people by living a wild and unrestricted life. Man has lost faith and has tried to fill that void of God with vain things. The world needs to return to God, otherwise life on earth will not be tolerable, and many souls will be lost. The Gospel must be spread more firmly, so that men may open their hearts to Christ, in whom when entering, breaks down the chains that bind men to sin and frees us from this present evil age.

Jesus Christ is not our best option, but the only one.

Morning Isaiah 55:1-13

1 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.

2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.

3 Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you— The sure mercies of David.

4 Indeed I have given him as a witness to the people, A leader and commander for the people.

5 Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you shall run to you, Because of the Lord your God, And the Holy One of Israel; For He has glorified you.”

6 Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.

8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

10 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater,

11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

12 “For you shall go out with joy and be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. 1

3 Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; And it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”

Noon Psalms 125

1 They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.

2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

3 For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.

4 Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.

5 As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.

Evening 2 Chronicles 7:11-14

11 Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.

12 And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.

13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;

14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
