HE DOES NOT ABANDON YOU

Devotional for Sunday June 12, 2022

The Bible teaches us that when we are passing through the valley of the shadow of death, God will be with us to help us out. Joseph's story is a vivid picture of this reality. Separated from his family and his homeland, Joseph must have felt alone. We might be tempted to conclude from his circumstances that God had completely abandoned him. Likewise, when we find ourselves in difficulties, we may think that God has left us. But, what if the tests are trying to reveal something else? What if God wants to show us the preciousness of his love while strengthening our faith? Later in the story, we read these words: "The Lord was with Joseph." God did not abandon him, on the contrary, he was truly with him and his suffering was not in vain.

The Bible instructs us not to dismiss difficulties as bad, but instead, with eyes of faith, look below the surface where God seeks to transform us to be more like Him. When faced with life's trials , remember that you are not helpless; God is with you, hold on to his purposes that are for his glory and for your good.

Morning Genesis 39:1-4

1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.

2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

Noon Psalm 68:1-10

1 Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.

2 As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

3 But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.

4 Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.

5 A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

6 God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

7 O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness; Selah:

8 The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

9 Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary.

10 Thy congregation hath dwelt therein: thou, O God, hast prepared of thy goodness for the poor.

Evening Psalms 23:1-6

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Prayer Guide: [Cuba-Playa Baracoa] and [Ecuador-El Milagro]

This month's challenge is: Think before you judge or act.

Ask yourself at all times: how would I want to be treated if I were in that condition? Always remember Jesus' advice: “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Judge not, and you will not be judged: condemn not, and you will not be condemned: forgive, and you will be forgiven."

Luke 6:36,37
