THE RIGHT MOTIVATIONS

Devotional for August 13, 2021

Morning: Psalm 86:11

Noon: Psalm 97

Evening: Matthew 5:8

It’s been said that a man is only as big as his ambitions. What a man desires will determine the route he will try to take for the rest of his life. His goal will influence his time management, talents, opportunities, and it will even determine the course of his thoughts.

It’s not enough to only do what is right; we should do what is right having the right motivations. Some brothers and sisters can identify some sinful areas in their lives — areas which require a radical change. Nonetheless, they may feel inadequate as they observe time passing by and notice they’ve failed to reach the changes they wanted to see in themselves — changes they know they should make. Maybe the key to understanding this failure is precisely in that these people have discovered some wrong behavior, but haven’t gone any further than that; they haven’t comprehended that if they are to experiment a change in their lives, they have to start with their ambitions — those which determine where we are headed. We should go to the fountain and purify it so that everything that comes from it will be pure as well.

Teach me, oh Lord, your way; I will walk in your truth.

Morning: Psalm 86:11

Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

Noon: Psalm 97

1 The Lord reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.

2 Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.

3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.

4 His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.

5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.

7 Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods.

8 Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O Lord.

9 For thou, Lord, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.

10 Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

12 Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

Evening: Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
