WE CAN CHOOSE NOT TO SIN

October 19, 2021

Morning 1 John 1:8

Noon Psalms 5

Evening Hebrews 4:15

Can the Christian sin? Of course, yes! "If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us" (1 John 1: 8). But having sin and being a sinner are two completely different things. When we choose to walk according to the flesh, we continue to sin, but as it states in 1 John 2: 1 “My children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin”. We can choose not to sin. Being bombarded by so many tempting thoughts, we end up thinking that there is something in us so wicked that it cannot be defeated. We continue to believe Satan's lie that we have no choice but to give in to temptation because sooner or later we must sin. But what about Jesus? He "was tempted in all things according to our likeness, but without sin" (Hebrews 4:15). Jesus, like us, was exposed to temptation, the difference is that he never sinned, and we don't have to sin either. The essence of temptation is the invitation to lead a lifestyle independent of God, and with Jesus it was no exception. We too must and can respond to temptation by trusting God to meet our needs as the Son of God did.

-Lord, give me the courage to renounce everything that separates me from You, because today I know that I can choose not to sin.

Morning 1 John 1:8

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Noon Psalms 5

1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.

5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.

11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

12 For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Evening Hebrews 4:15

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
