WHERE DO YOU BUILD?

Devotional for December 9, 2021

Morning Luke 6:46-49

Noon Psalms 125

Evening 1 Corinthians 3:1-15

Jesus teaches us about two types of people: the wise and the foolish. The prudent man is the one who directs his life according to the precepts established by God, which do not change with time, nor do they get old or weak. The prudent man lives and behaves at the height of the immutable values presented in the Bible, which have proven to be indispensable to build a full life and build a prosperous society in all respects. On the other hand, the foolish man lays the foundation of his life in the fickle sands of materialism, hedonism, and individualism, worldly values that are temporary and inconsistent. This type of man is carried by any wind of doctrine and responds only to his personal and petty interests. It is because of a society of foolish men who build on the sand of error and lies that society collapses in the face of any storm of trials, tribulations, or temptations. The prudent man listens to the voice of God and does his will, acting according to the example of Jesus and with the power and wisdom that the Holy Spirit gives him.

If you build on the Rock, your house will not fall, your faith is not destroyed.

Sabbath School Book

– translated by Maria Elena Cardona

Morning Luke 6:46-49

46 But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?

47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like:

48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.

49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

Noon Psalms 125

1 They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.

2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

3 For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.

4 Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.

5 As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.

Evening 1 Corinthians 3:1-15

1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?

5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?

6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
