YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST YOUR NEIGHBOR

Devotional for December 5, 2021

Morning James 3:5

Noon Psalms 125

Evening Matthew 11:28-30

For a person to say they did not say that, or say they did what they did not do, with the express intention of damaging their reputation or protecting ours is to bear false testimony. Some people distort the truth, not because they primarily want to damage the reputation of others, but because they want to defend their own, yet for whatever reason it may have been, the Bible tells us this is a sin and a terrible abomination. Gossip creates divisions and quarrels. Proverbs 26:20 states "Without wood a fire goes out, and where there is no gossip, strife ceases." It's the gossiper who keeps the fuel flowing from one side to the other. Do you want to actively fight against this sin? Pray to God and ask to place a guard on our lips, think before speaking and carefully consider the terrible evils that gossip produces. Finally, solve your personal problems quickly. Resolve the matter quickly before the devil uses that anger to generate sins, one of which, most likely, will be gossip.

Refraining our tongue is a characteristic of those who really know God.

Morning James 3:5

5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!

Noon Psalms 125

1 They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.

2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

3 For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.

4 Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.

5 As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.

Evening Matthew 11:28-30

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
